Encryption for Data Protection: From WEP to WPA3

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) was the earliest security protocol used for wireless networks, but it was quickly found to be insecure due to its 40-bit encryption key vulnerabilities. A better solution, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), was developed and offered a stronger encryption method called Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). The Weakness in WPA2: Pre-Shared Key Hashing

During the initial connection with WPA2, there’s a four-way handshake that occurs. An attacker might try to derive the pre-shared key hash or capture it during this handshake and perform a brute force attack offline to find the pre-shared key.

With improved technologies, attackers can use techniques such as GPU processing or cloud-based password cracking to quickly reverse engineer the password in just a few days.
