View WiFi Security Key in Windows 11
In this tutorial, we will show you how to view the Wi-Fi security key or password on your Windows 11 operating system. We’ll cover two different methods: one for when you are currently connected to the Wi-Fi and another for recovering your Wi-Fi password if you have ever connected to it before.
Method 1: View current Wi-Fi security key
- Click on the search bar and type “Control Panel”
- Select “Control Panel” from the results and choose “View by Category”
- Click on “Network and Internet”, then “Network and Sharing Center”
- From the left-side menu, click on your currently connected Wi-Fi network
- In the Status dialog box, click on “Wireless Properties”
- Go to the “Security” tab and check the box for “Show characters” to view the security key.
Method 2: Recover previously connected Wi-Fi passwords
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box
- Type “regedit” and press Enter to open the Registry Editor
- Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Interfaces”
- Find your Wi-Fi adapter’s Interface GUID (Interface {xxxx…})
- Right-click on the empty space, choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it “ProfileName”
- Double-click on “ProfileName” and input your Wi-Fi network’s SSID without any spaces or special characters. Click OK.
- Right-click again, choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it “Dot11 Passphrase”. Double-click to modify the value and paste the Wi-Fi password there. Click OK.
After completing these steps, you should be able to view your Wi-Fi security key on Windows 11.
